Secrets of Hightower

Secrets of Hightower - Martin Naylor Nick Collins is a twelve year old boy, who has just inherited Hightower Cottage. When he and his mum move into the cottage, Nick soon finds himself in the biggest adventure of his life! He is confronted with a challenge that he is determined to see through. He is to become the "Overseer" to a group of people called the Elvereys. Together with his new friends, Nick must go on an adventure to save the engine-hearts (a type of battery) from being used for nefarious purposes. Will he succeed before it's too late?I was given this book to read by my nephew, who said it was very good. I think his description needs to be upgraded! This book is FANTASTIC! It made me smile and giggle a lot in places, and kept me hooked from the first page.Nick is only twelve years old, and moving into the countryside with his mother is a bit of a shock to him! To then find out he's to become the overseer to the Elvereys was a double shock, but he begins to take his responsibilities very seriously! He is a very likeable character, and I can see what kind of man he would someday be.The Elvereys are a curious bunch. I won't say too much here, because I don't want to put in spoilers. However, I fell in love with the characters, especially Jed and Church! They made me laugh! There was one scene with Jed, Nick and some bullies that had me grinning like mad!M.G. Naylor has created a fantastic world that captured my imagination and let it run riot! I am ecstatic that my nephew has given me the second book to read too! I highly recommend this book to young adults and adults alike, and suggest you put this book on your "To Be Read list" as soon as possible!
