I was given a copy of this book by the author for an honest review.This book was a pleasant surprise! I have read detective novels with demons in them before, but this story was a refreshing change!Jaycee is a private investigator who is very good at finding missing people. She had a foul mouth and a quick temper. However, I really liked her! She is sassy and very independent, despite having had a rough childhood. (Or may be because of it).Her demon guardian, Bob, is a fantastic character! His child-like wonder and constant questions made me smile. However, he is extremely deadly with his knife!This is an extremely entertaining story, but it has a very dark tone. There are graphic scenes described of the torture and sexual violence perpetrated by the Countess that could be upsetting to those of a nervous disposition.Jaycee finds herself in an impossible situation, but I never got the feeling that she was helpless. She is the quintessential heroine.Peyton Connor has written a fast paced detective novel that may contain demons, but it kept me hooked from the first page. The writing style of this author is very fluid, and it swept me away very easily. I am now wanting to find out what Heaven and Hell have planned for Jaycee in the future! I recommend this book if you love a great paranormal detective novel.
