The Ballad of Corey Robichaux

The Ballad of Corey Robichaux - Shane Hebert Review 6******I was given a copy of this book by the author for an honest review. This is a fabulous story that took me on a nostalgic tour back through the late 1980's. I absolutely loved it!Corey Robichaux is a 14 year old boy and he is a fantastic character. He's a bit of a neat freak, but this lends to his charm. He's the boy next door, and he plays in a band with his friends. When Angela Talbot moves into town, little does he know what the future will hold.Angela Talbot is the new girl at school. She is feisty and prone to losing her temper; she is very competitive and plays a lot of sport. She is a very tall girl, and this tends to get her noticed. When she meets Corey, a friendship springs up between them. This is a coming of age tale that encapsulates the angst, friendship and growth that all teenagers go through, it is also a love story. It follows Corey, Angela and their friends all through high school. I especially can relate to this tale somewhat, as I grew up in the 1980's. Reading this book brought memories of my own school days, the friends and the music that shaped the person I am today. This book touched me emotionally, and I found myself shedding a few tears through Corey's journey. The story was well written, and the different points of view from the other characters gave the whole thing a feeling of being a real experience. Today's teenagers reading this book may not get some of the references to popular culture in the 1980's. However, those of you who, like me, were raised in that time frame will remember them well. The one thing I loved about the late 1980's was the music. I love music from that decade, and I still listen to it today. That it was played on cassettes rather than CD's or MP3's would sound strange to today's teenager. I highly recommend this book to everyone, teenagers and adults alike.Shane Hebert has written a fantastic story that kept me turning the pages as he swept me back in time. I am looking forward to reading more of his books, and wish him all the success in the future.
