Midwinterblood

Midwinterblood - Marcus Sedgwick I bought this book because the blurb sounded interesting. I was totally unprepared for the riveting storyline. I loved it!Eric is a journalist in search of a story about a remote island called Blessed. The year is 2073. What he finds is far from what he expected. Will he be prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice? This book totally captured my attention from the first page. Told in seven short stories, it journeys back through time to King Eirikr and his beloved wife Melle. The love that these soul-mates share is truly breathtaking! Eirikr's words to his wife brought a tear to my eye: "I will live seven times, and I will look for you and love you in each life."This story is heartwarming, but it is also heartbreaking. The reader is taken on an amazing journey of love and sacrifice. The ending was quite violent but, in a way, fitting with the gothic feel to this YA romance novel.I have never read any other books by Marcus Sedgwick, but after reading this one, I'll be checking out the rest of his back catalogue in the future. This book was well written and each story flowed beautifully. I highly recommend this book if you love thrillers, dark YA romance or suspense. - Lynn Worton
