Malevolent Gateway; A S.P.I.R.I.T. Series Novel

Malevolent Gateway - Dawn Gray This is the second book in the S.P.I.R.I.T. series. I loved it!Will Stiles is a fantastic character. He is a dedicated soldier who, because of an injury sustained in combat, has the ability to "sense" evil. When he arrives in Burke Flats to investigate a series of strange accidents, he meets two locals, Anna and Blake, who seem to have unusual gifts of their own.I was eager to get my hands on this book, as I had read the first one and was completely hooked on the series from the first page! I started reading this book and I struggled to put it down! The suspense, mystery and danger kept me on the edge of my seat! The evil described in this book was almost palpable! I felt like I was actually there, in the marsh, and it sent shivers down my spine! The characters, both alive and dead, became real in my minds eye. This story is also told with a few flashbacks to Anna's and Blake's childhood and teen years. There is also a little side romance for Blake and a fellow member of the S.P.I.R.I.T. team. I found this to be a very sweet inclusion. Will and Anna's connection is magnetic, both spiritually and physically. They make a great couple. There are a few sensual scenes that are on the scorching side of things, but are not explicit. Zander Smith (from S.P.I.R.I.T.: Fire Storm) makes a welcome return, to help with the investigation. There are secrets and mysteries still to be explored by the S.P.I.R.I.T. team about the marsh and surrounding town by the end of the story, so I am now looking forward to reading the next book as soon as possible!Dawn Gray has written a fast paced, rollercoaster ride of romance and danger that has me begging for more! There are a few gruesome scenes that are not for the faint of heart, so I do not recommend this book for younger readers or those of a nervous disposition. However, I highly recommend this book (and series) if you love paranormal romance, suspense, mystery or thrillers. - Lynn Worton
